Accomplished comic artist Val Semeiks will be illustrating John Schlim Jr.’s short story, “Treasure,” for the third and final volume of Outlaw Territory, the critically acclaimed western comic anthology published by Image Comics. Semeiks’s distinct style has made him a fan favorite on many popular series at Marvel and DC, and the gritty details and explosive energy of his artwork are perfectly suited for a western.

Included are early sketches of lead character Jericho Seldom.

Fablewood Studios is now Fablehaus Studio!

John Schlim Jr has announced that his writing & design studio in New Hampshire has officially changed its name to Fablehaus Studio effective immediately. The original name of Fablewood Studios has become increasingly confused with other creators and projects also using the name Fablewood, often resulting in wrongly assumed affiliations.

John encourages everyone to check out the work of artist & writer Andy Farkas at Fablewood.com, who is probably the creator most often associated with ”Fablewood.” Also of note is The Fablewood Anthology, a fantasy comic book published by Ape Entertainment that borrowed its name from John’s studio.

By changing names, John’s hope is that there will no longer be conflicting promotional efforts detracting from Andy’s work or The Fablewood Anthology. The mission of Fablehaus Studio will remain the same: to spin tales of wonder and adventure by uniting the written word with the imaginative visions of the finest artists, animators, and multimedia alchemists in the world.

“Banana Cream Pie Fever” to be featured in Panels for Primates

“Banana Cream Pie Fever,” a short comic story written by John Schlim Jr. and illustrated by Chicago-area artist/designer Andy Jewett, is being added to the rotation of the Panels for Primates webcomic project on ACT-I-VATE. Jewett used a contemporary underground cartoon style for the strip to create a primitive feel that suits the jungle setting perfectly. “Banana Cream Pie Fever” will debut on the site on November 24, 2010.

Edited by Troy Wilson and hosted by ACT-I-VATE, Panels for Primates is an ongoing anthology that will feature new primate stories or strips by different creators every Wednesday, all to benefit the Primate Rescue Center in Nicholasville, KY. Readers will be able to view the ever-growing archive of primate stories absolutely free, but will be encouraged to swing over to http://www.primaterescue.org and donate what they can. They should specify that their donations are Panels for Primate donations.

Panels for Primates will offer an eclectic mix of creators and content, with the only common denominators being high quality and primates. The stories/strips will range in length from one page to ten pages.

The mission of the Primate Rescue Center is to alleviate the suffering of primates wherever it occurs by:
-providing sanctuary or referral to appropriate facilities.
-working to end the trade of primates both in the United States and abroad.
-educating the public to the plight of primates caught in the breeder/dealer cycle.
-assisting researchers and zoo personnel in finding appropriate placement for surplus primates.
-encouraging compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and animal welfare statutes.

Fiendish Fables goes mobile!

The first Fiendish Fables comic book published by Brain Scan Studios is now available as one of the select mobile comics on Panelfly, a full service digital comic reader and organizer for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch platforms. Panelfly’s Store enables users to search, preview, and download comics and graphic novels directly to their device using existing iTunes accounts. The coolest thing is that Panelfly’s panel navigation allows users to sequentially read each page panel-by-panel simply by touching the right or left side of the screen.

Just discovered that Dandelion was listed in the July 2010 issue of Diamond Previews catalog (for items shipping September 2010). Item code JUL10 0756. The promo on pg. 28 incorrectly lists the writer as Nikola Jajic and the artist as Rick Hershey, two very talented creators. But all fans of Dandelion realize that the actual creative team includes writer John Schlim Jr, penciler Sergio Apodaca, inker Jesus Salas, and colorist Mauricio Pinzon. Help spread the word about this error!

Addendum: Diamond has responded well to this. Thankfully they will be running corrections to the creator credits in their print Dateline newsletter, as well as on the retailer and vendor service sites.
